From the recording Independence Day

This song has been waiting to be born for 30 years. It was the worst breakup of my life. It was the 4th of July and she was out there. I lamented and obsessed and eventually began to write this song. It stayed in very rudimentary form until about 2022, when my now wife helped me complete the lyrics and I was able to give it some definition. Then I recruited some fine musicians to record it in my studio Clandestine Studio. Here is the finished product. I hope you like it.

The musicians are:
Brian Macaluso: Vocals melodica and incidental guitar
Alan Macaluso : Guitars
Mark Lerner: Bass
Ross Rice: Piano, Rhodes
Eric Parker: Drums

Lyrics

In the red glare
Rooftops, watching over
Tonight
I’m independent but not free

One half of a pair
Fleeing for another
Tonight
I’m independent
But not free

Lying here drinking thinking
Knowing that you’re
Somewhere without me

In this imperfect union

Where are you now?
Where are you now?

Somewhere by the river
In arms
And indifferent to me.

I search for you there
In the moonlight on the ocean
Tonight
I’m independent
But not free

Crying here
Scheming, dreaming
Wondering if you’re
Thinking about me.

In this imperfect union.

Where are you now?
Where are you now?

Laughing with a stranger
You’re charmed
And will not listen
To me

Trying here
Pleading, bleeding
Wondering how I’ll go on
Without…

This imperfect union

Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
